1 Our Family 0000 6 More for Members

Our Vision

- To foster a God-glorifying atmosphere of simple, spiritual and scriptural worship within our families and when we gather together for worship.

- To see all who come into contact with our church become followers of Jesus Christ.

- To promote excellence in the preaching and teaching of the Bible.

- To make Christians into lifelong disciples through the study of the Bible.

- To empower Christians to take the Good News of Jesus to others.

- To promote the development of Christian community, both within our church and with sister churches.

Our Leadership

Being a Presbyterian church, the spiritual aspects of our congregation are managed by a number of elected elders who are members of the Kirk Session, whereas anything to do with finance or fabric comes under the remit of the Deacons’ Court which is made up of elected deacons.

Our Staff Team

Rev Colin Dow, Minister

Colin joined GCFC in 2003 transferring straight from seminary. He is a trained scientist holding a PhD in Solid State Chemistry. Colin loves the culture of GCFC and our desire to know God better through His Word. He lives in Anniesland in Glasgow with his wife, Kathmar and his children, Samuel, Aidan, Kathryn and Jonathan.

Rev Phil Stogner, Associate Minister

Phil joined GCFC in 2019 from the USA as a partner of Mission to the World. Originally from the southern state of South Carolina – which you can readily tell from his accent – he moved to Scotland for a period of five years. He serves as an Associate Minister here at GCFC and is the church planting facilitator for our daughter congregation in Helensburgh. He also supports area pastors as a pastor coach. He enjoys leadership development, preaching, sailing, and long hikes. He and his wife Wendy have 4 adult children and 2 grandchildren who live in the States. They live in Shawlands and love exploring the surrounding neighbourhoods along with downtown Glasgow.

Walter Matheson, Facilities Manager

Walter has worshipped in GCFC for over 35 years and is currently an elder of the church. He is a retired civil servant who oversees the maintenance and health and safety of the building and manages the liaison with the building owners and contractors. He lives in Bearsden with his wife Anne.

Matthias van der Swaagh, Youth Worker

Matthias and his wife Heidi have lived in Scotland and attended GCFC for three years. Originally from New York, Matthias has worked as the GCFC youth worker since 2019. In this position, Heidi and Matthias oversee meetings and events for the students and young workers of GCFC, as well as being available to meet one-to-one. Matthias is a keen cyclist and is always willing to go on a ride or talk about bicycles. In addition to his work with GCFC, Matthias works as Concerts Administrator with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra. Heidi and Matthias live in Shawlands.

Laura Stevenson, Congregational Administrator

Laura has been Administrator since the end of 2016 after a 20 year career in the Civil Service.  She loves her work, and has the great privilege of being part of the GCFC family, whilst worshipping at her own Church, thereby ensuring she gets her weekends off!  The office is open Monday-Friday 9am-5pm, and Laura can be contacted between those hours.  Laura lives in Paisley with her husband, Billy.
